Feb 092013

February 13 shall forever be known as the date my first real gaming companion passed away. I wrote an extensive obituary. But now, 362 days later this 9th of February (last year was a leap year, remember?) I woke up to a new baby. A giant box on my doorstep, posing as an unwanted baby. But then again, this one was wanted.

I ordered this beast of a box yesterday, when I noticed a sale: a 250GB Xbox 360 slim with Halo 4, discounted from €249 to €189. Because my birthday was a few weeks ago, so I had some money left to spend on a gift to myself, thus I ordered it. However, I had to work last night, so I had to inform my housemates to open the door for the delivery-guy as I would probably be sleeping when he would arrive to hand me my new console. I was right.

As the clock is slowly ticking away, counting down the final moments of this year, it is time to recap 2012. What movies, what games or what albums were either very good, or very bad. As I can’t have total knowledge of everything that was released the last 366 days, I will stick with whatever I’ve seen, listened to or played. I wanted to include books to this list, but I haven’t really read any books for the purpose of entertainment; if I’d read anything at all, it would have been studying material. A little disclaimer beforehand: I only watch/play/listen to stuff I would want to watch/play/listen to, so ‘the worst X of 2012′ will probably be the movie/game/album that was the biggest let-down for me. This list is therefore highly subjective. So let’s kick off with movies, after the jump.

A little update on the holiday game giveaway, which is still open for new entries, as I now have all the games that are going to be given away. As a proof this is not a scam, I’ll post a screenshot of my steam inventory after the jump. As of now, just 19 people ‘like’ FELIXDICIT on Facebook, seeing as I have 13 games to give away, if you enter now you are more than likely to be given a free game!

It’s the season to be jolly, lalalalala, la la la la.

It’s almost the end of 2012 and the holidays are fast approaching. Whether it’s Christmas or Hanukkah, or simply the end of 2012, there is a reason to celebrate. As I want to give something back to my faithful readers, I’m going to organize a game-giveaway.Which games, and what you have to do for it to get one, is going to be explained below.

1. Super Smash Bros. used licensed Nintendo characters without initial permission.

EArly in development, the game was just random polygons fighting other random polygons. The creators had to come up with something that would make people want to buy Super Smash Bros. (N64). So they took a gamble. They took four Nintendo characters (Mario, Samus, Fox and Donkey Kong) and made them playable characters, without consulting with Nintendo about it. Being a second-party Nintendo developer, this could only end in two ways: great success, or a patent-infringement lawsuit. Luckily for them, it ended in a great succes, and six other Nintendo-patented characters entered the roster, making the Super Smash Bros. we know today. (source)
