I love music. Not all music, I have a distinct opinion on what I listen. It goes from epic orchestral music, to relaxing post-rock indie, to heavy metal. It really depends on the mood I’m in.

Music review: ‘Every Country’s Sun’ by Mogwai

Post rock, as a genre, is hard to define. It is a mix of synthesizers and rock music, culminating in a sound that can be described as ‘atmospheric’ at best. It is even harder to suggest to someone to give it a try. The songs are often way over six minutes long and have generally very long intro’s. They have slow tempo’s, lack any real chorus and, more often than not, lack any vocals as well. At first glance, the songs are highly repetitive and monotone. They aren’t catchy. They...

Videogame ánd Music? Why yes, it’s Audiosurf 2!

I made a video. Of a song. In a videogame. Impossible? Nope, it’s Audiosurf 2, the follow up to the critically acclaimed Audiosurf. Originally going to be called ‘Audiosurf: Air’, it’s now simply called ‘Audiosurf 2’. And I’m okay with that. It’s awesome. Don’t trust me? You can buy it here, and try it for yourself. It’s still in early acces, which means it isn’t fully finished yet. This doesn’t mean it is unplayable – quite the contrary. It just gets better with every (almost) daily update. The song, for...

The 2013 Summer Hit? 0

The 2013 Summer Hit?

Last year I quite accurately predicted in April Rudimental’s “Feel the Love” would be the summer hit of 2012. This year, I’m willing to make another prediction. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’  “Can’t Hold Us” featuring Ray Dalton. Enjoy.

Sunshine of your Love 1

Sunshine of your Love

12th of March, 2012. The first real day of spring. In order to celebrate, I wrote a post about it. The theme-song of that day was The Beatles’ ‘Here Comes the Sun’. Today, the 4th of March, I will celebrate the exact same thing – the victory of the sun over dreary, cold and cloudy weather. I booted up iTunes to find a theme song to this joyous day. Searching for ‘sun’, I eventually came up with Cream’s ‘Sunshine of your Love’, which I put up above. Enjoy!

FELIXDICIT’s ‘X of 2012’ 0

FELIXDICIT’s ‘X of 2012’

As the clock is slowly ticking away, counting down the final moments of this year, it is time to recap 2012. What movies, what games or what albums were either very good, or very bad. As I can’t have total knowledge of everything that was released the last 366 days, I will stick with whatever I’ve seen, listened to or played. I wanted to include books to this list, but I haven’t really read any books for the purpose of entertainment; if I’d read anything at all, it would have...

7 WTFacts (Music I)

1. Norah Jones is Ravi Shankar’s daughter. You might’ve heard about Norah Jones, jazz-musician. You might not have heard of Ravi Shankar. Well, Ravi Shankar was an Indian-musician, renowned for introducing George Harrison and the rest of the Beatles to the sound of the sitar. If you hear Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hart Club Band, you’ll noticed the prevalence of the exotic sounding sitar, played by Harrison. Shankar thaught him how to play it. Sadly, Shankar passed away last week, but his spirit lives on in the form of his daughter,...

MUSIC REVIEW: Caspian – Waking Season 0

MUSIC REVIEW: Caspian – Waking Season

Artist: Caspian Album:  Waking Season Genre: Post-Rock (instrumental) Runtime: 50:50 Let’s start this review with an acknowledgement. I never heard of Caspian. I was looking for some new album releases, when this one caught my attention. I gave it a try, and was sold almost immediately. It’s not as melancholic as ‘Faunts’, not as experimental as ‘Godspeed You! Black Emperor’, not as polished as ‘Mogwai’, but it is on equal footing with all these bands. It’s melodious.

MUSIC REVIEW: Faunts – Left Here Alone (EP)

Artist: Faunts Album: Left Here Alone Genre: Post-Rock Runtime: ~30 minutes FINALLY! My favorite band returns with a new album. Ever since the EP called ‘M4’, Faunts have been one of, if not the, my favorite bands. Their albums, ‘High Expectations/Low Results’ and ‘Feel.Love.Thinking.Of’ where equally great, though the latter seemed depart a bit from their regular recordings, with shorter songs, and catchier, balanced tunes more reminiscent of pop music. How does the second EP of Faunts hold up to my (very) high expectations? Will it have low results? Read on.

MUSIC TIP: Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! 0

MUSIC TIP: Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!

Do you like instrumental music? Do you want to space out for about an hour? Or do you just want to listen to some beautiful, relaxing tunes while procrastinating? It is possible. Just listen to this full, 54-minute album by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I can best describe it as a journey, you don’t listen to these songs individually, but as a whole. Turn up your speakers or put on your headphones, press play, sit back and relax. It starts out quite slow, but picks up the pace at about...
