Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo || Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 Custom Livery
Back in the 80s, Nissan was still mostly known as Datsun in the United States. But, they wanted to change that. And what better way to introduce yourself than to build a racecar to challenge one of the most successful cars the continent had seen until then, the Porsche 962, which had dominated IMSAs GTP class for years?
Nissan, Electramotive Engineering and Lola worked together on what later became known as the Nissan GTP ZX-T or ZX-Turbo. A car which, in the hands of driver Geoff Brabham, features a striking red on white on blue livery which is simple yet recognizable.
After some years of developing the car, by 1988 it would achieve its goal, at least partially, with Geoff Brabham winning the driver’s championship. By 1989, Nissan would also add the constructor’s championship to its tally, fully accomplishing their goal of making a grand entrance on the North American market.
The rest is, quite frankly, history. Nissan went on to replace the GPT ZX-Turbo with the NPT-90, before the GPT class was shuttered by IMSA. The red, white and blue livery lives on, especially now with this newly created livery for the 2018 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3!
