MIDNIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

Starring: Will Ferrel, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman Director: Marc Forster Genre: Drama Runtime: 113 minutes What do you do when your life is being narrated? Would you freak out, or would you try to find a connection? Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) does both, after the narrator drops the sentence “little did he know of his impending death”. Harold, an IRS auditor (‘tax-man’) isn’t very fond of his life. He is lonely, stuck in a daily routine that would drive most people to suicide. Not Harold. He is the kind of...

TV REVIEW: The Newsroom (episode 1) 1

TV REVIEW: The Newsroom (episode 1)

I’ve awaited ‘The Newsroom’, HBO’s new drama series from the mind of Aaron Sorkin, for a long time. I even wrote a preview for it nearly two months ago. After much waiting, the first episode premiered yesterday, so I could watch it today. Which I did. I’ll post my experiences while watching the first episode below. ‘The Newsroom’ starts out with Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) being questioned during a college tour. He tries to remain neutral on political topics, but when the speaker insists on getting an answer from the heart, he snaps. He...

TV REVIEW: How I Met Your Mother (Season 7)

It is now mid June. All of the mainstream series have ended their seasons, which means it is time to do a recap of the season. I’m going to post a series of season recaps starting today, about the series I’m following. What happened, what does this mean for future seasons, and how is the season compared to earlier seasons? That’s what I’ll be talking about, starting with How I Met Your Mother, one of the most well-known sitcoms since Friends. What Happened? The season starts with a teaser. Barney...

MOVIE REVIEW: Detachment

Starring: Adrien Brody, James Caan, Lucy Liu, Christina Hendricks Director: Tony Kaye Genre: Drama Runtime: 97 minutes What do you do if the school you teach has become an anarchy of violent students, harassing the teachers and other students alike? What do you do if the neighbourhood you live in goes to hell, with prostitutes and gang violence determining the face of the streets? What do you do when the last person you love is about to die? All these questions are fired upon Henry Barthes (Adrien Brody) at once....

TV REVIEW: The Walking Dead (Seasons 1 and 2)

So Felix, you’ve been away for a while. How come? Well, I’ve been watching the Walking Dead for quite a while. It’s one of the reasons I havent posted in a while, and the only reason relevant to this blog post. It’s common courtesy to at least write a blog post about it, right? So here we are, I’m now going to review the first two seasons of The Walking Dead; a zombie-apocalypse series by AMC.

MOVIE REVIEW: Chronicle 2

MOVIE REVIEW: Chronicle

Starring: Dane DeHaan, Alex Russel, Michael B. Jordan Director: Josh Trank Genre: Superhero Runtime: 84 minutes I wasn’t convinced about the quality of this film before seeing it. A director without any credentials, and the lead-actor having only a few minor titles behind his name.  Combine it with a genre that benefits from bigger budgets, which this movie obviously hasn’t got, and you have a recipe for disaster. Strangely, this film turned out okay. Pretty okay, if I might say so. It’s actually quite good. Why that’s so, I’ll explain...

MOVIE REVIEW: This Means War 1

MOVIE REVIEW: This Means War

Starring: Chris Pine, Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon Director: McG Genre: Action/Comedy Runtime: 97 minutes I had seen some trailers for this film in advance, and I must say, it looked like a good action-packed comedy. Girl meets boy, girl meets another boy. Girl can’t decide on which boy to choose. Turns out, they’re both spies working for the US government, and on top of all that, they’re best friends.  Girl doesn’t know, but the guys soon realize they’re in love with the same girl, so they use their tricks and...

MIDNIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Meeting Evil 0

MIDNIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Meeting Evil

Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Luke Wilson, Peyton List Director: Chris Fisher Genre: Thriller Runtime: 89 minutes John Feltman’s (Luke Wilson) life sucks. Being a real-estate agent, he has been hit hard by the economic crisis. He can’t sell any house, and is therefore fired from the job. He has bills he cannot pay, and on top of that, his own house is being foreclosed. Not the best situation he could be in. It is fair to say, John has to make ends meet. He has to change the downward spiral...

MOVIE REVIEW: Sherlock Holmes; A Game of Shadows

Robert Downey Jr. had almost been forgotten, until he was cast as Tony Stark in the ‘Iron Man’-movies. After portraying a believable, gritty persona, he had offers flying his way. One offer in particular got his attention, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes-reboot. He signed, and made a wonderful performance as a sociopathic Sherlock Holmes, who, as always, was aided by his friend and doctor John Watson, as played by Jude Law. The film was released to critical acclaim, and did reasonably well in the box office. It wasn’t a surprise a second...

REVIEW: HTC One X

Yes, it’s here. After an awkward unboxing video and a size comparison with my HD2, it is now time for the review. I’m now a bit more familiar with this extraordinairy piece of technology, enough that I can do a review for it. Here’s the videoreview, which is sort of a (very dreadful) summary, the full review is after the jump. Man, I gotta learn how to do these things. Good thing this one doesn’t induce motion sickness like the last one.
