Gold Leaf Team Lotus 72 (1970 F1) || Aston Martin AMR V8 GT3 Custom Livery

I love old liveries. Ever since the first commercially sponsored racing teams emerged there have been many iconic liveries on the race track. They have already formed a great treasure trove of inspiration for many of my custom Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC) liveries. Take all these Formula 1-inspired liveries for example.

I’ve made many Tyrrell-based liveries for the McLaren 720S Evo. I’ve made a few old-school Ferrari’s, Minardi and Benetton for the Ferrari 296 GT3. And I made a Lotus. The 99T for the latest Lamborghini, to be exact.

But now I’m adding to that with this Lotus 72-inspired Aston Martin AMR V8 GT3, wearing the Gold Leaf colours. Gold Leaf was first featured on the Lotus 49 in 1968 and continued on the Lotus 63 and later the Lotus 72, which was introduced in the 1970 F1 season. It stayed on the car until the 1972 season, when it was replaced by the colours of its parent company: the much more iconic John Player & Sons “John Player Special” brand.

During it’s tenure with the team, the livery remained largely unchanged. Red and white, with a gold line separating the two. I could’ve said it was based on the earlier models, but in my mind this was always a tribute to Jochen Rindt who posthumously won the 1970 WDC.
